Active Travels - A Journey Through Nature

The “Active Travels – A Journey Through Nature” project, delivered by Yuvanis Foundation, was an initiative aimed at encouraging walking/hiking as a means of travel, with a particular focus on BAME young people in Oldham. Funded by Transport for Greater Manchester, the project sought to address pressing issues such as social isolation, physical health challenges, and limited access to natural heritage within the BAME community.

Festival of Walking

This project aimed to support community engagement in movement/physical activity and connect people with nature for the YHA Festival of Walking, with a particular focus on overcoming financial barriers caused by Covid-19 and/or the cost-of-living crisis. The target audience for this project was families from South Asian backgrounds who are less likely to be physically active.

Family Sports Project

The purpose of this project was to engage with parents from the South Asian community of Oldham
as we know from experience of working in the BAME community and national statistics that there is
an increase in their inactivity, more so as a result of the pandemic.

The weekly fun football sessions organized by Yuvanis Foundation serve as a vibrant and inclusive
platform for boys and girls aged 7 and above. These sessions are meticulously designed to be more
than just football training; they provide a welcoming and supportive environment where young
people can socialise, exercise, and enhance their physical health.
