Yuvanis Foundation Honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service
We’re overjoyed to share some thrilling news – Yuvanis Foundation has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024! This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
For over a decade, Yuvanis Foundation has been at the heart of Oldham, empowering South Asian and diverse communities through impactful programs that focus on physical health, mental wellbeing, youth development, and social cohesion. From weekly youth sports initiatives and wellbeing hubs to workshops and cultural activities, Yuvanis Foundation has created safe, inclusive spaces for individuals of all ages. We’re here to build bridges, inspire change, and empower individuals to lead healthier, more connected lives.
Yuvanis Foundation is one of 281 exceptional local charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups recognised with this prestigious award this year. This honour not only highlights the transformative power of our dedicated volunteers but also acknowledges the lasting impact we’re making in our community. Yuvanis Foundation, along with other awardees across the UK, showcases how grassroots efforts, driven by passion and resilience, are changing lives and creating brighter futures.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK. The Award seeks to recognise groups that are volunteer driven, making an outstanding impact in their local community, and when viewed across the UK, exceptional at a national level. It was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty The late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and was continued following the accession of His Majesty The King. 2024 marks the second year of The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Recipients are announced annually on 14th November, The King’s Birthday. Award winners this year are wonderfully diverse and include volunteer groups from across the UK, such as a mental health and wellbeing support network for veterans and their families in Yorkshire; a group preserving a historic 12th century castle in south Wales; volunteers providing English lessons for refugees in Stirling and an organisation providing opportunities to engage in the arts for people with learning disabilities in County Fermanagh. This recognition celebrates volunteer-led organisations transforming communities across the UK.
Later this summer, representatives from Yuvanis Foundation will receive the official award crystal and certificate from Diane Hawkins, Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester. In May and June 2025, two of our dedicated volunteers will have the incredible opportunity to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace, joining other recipients of this year’s Award.
