ZInes for Change Workshop

In a world that often feels overwhelming, young people are proving that creativity and community can be powerful tools for positive change. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring group of girls for our ‘Zines for Change’ workshop – a vibrant session that combined games, discussion, creative writing, and visual arts to explore how we can work together towards a brighter future.

The workshop created a safe and welcoming space for girls to reflect on how different faiths and communities are affected by both local and global crises. Rather than dwelling on the challenges, the focus was firmly on solutions, hope, and the power we all have to make a difference in our communities and beyond.

Imagining a Better Tomorrow

Through a series of engaging activities, the girls explored questions that matter. They imagined newspaper headlines they’d love to wake up to, shared three things they want to see changed around the world, and identified issues in their local area that need attention. The energy in the room was electric as ideas flowed freely and participants realized they weren’t alone in their concerns or their dreams for change.

The session encouraged participants to think about practical ways to make a difference, from random acts of kindness to identifying three things we can all do to make the world a better place. The girls also explored important topics like protecting ourselves from misinformation and the five steps to wellbeing – essential skills for navigating today’s complex world.

Creating Their Own Zines

The highlight of the workshop was the opportunity for each participant to create their own mini zine. These small, self-published magazines became personal manifestos for change, filled with the girls’ thoughts, artwork, and visions for a better future. Watching their creativity flourish was truly inspiring, as each zine reflected unique perspectives and beautiful expressions of hope.

Youth, Faith & Resilience

This workshop was part of the Youth, Faith & Resilience project, funded by GMCA and expertly delivered by Odd Arts. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership, which enables us to provide young people with opportunities to explore important issues in creative and meaningful ways.

The session reminded us all that young people have incredible insights and ideas about creating positive change. When given the space to express themselves and connect with others, they become powerful agents of hope and transformation in their communities. We’re excited to continue this journey and can’t wait to see the ripples of positive change these young people will create.

Empowering Girls Through STEM Play

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest initiative aimed at inspiring and empowering girls in the fascinating realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, andMathematics (STEM). With generous funding and capacity support from First Choice Homes Oldham’ s (FCHO) ROCA Grant, we held our first STEM Play day for girls on 21 February 2024. As advocates for gender equality in STEM fields, we believe it’s crucial to nurture interest and confidence in these areas from a young age. That’s why we’re introducing our STEM-based play initiative, designed specifically to ignite curiosity and foster a love for science and technology among young girls.
