Yuvanis is thrilled to announce the launch of its latest initiative, Yuvanis Youth Centres, aimed at providing safe spaces and meaningful activities for young people. With the closure of government-funded youth centres leaving a void for over a decade, Yuvanis is stepping in to fill this gap and offer opportunities for young individuals to engage in positive activities away from anti-social behaviour.
The newly established Youth Centres, spread across different locations, are community and young people-led. They promise to significantly impact crime and anti-social behaviour rates across communities. With a diverse range of activities tailored to meet the specific needs of young people, the centres aim to attract individuals from various backgrounds and interests.
The Yuvanis Youth Centres project is a pilot initiative funded by the Million Hours Fund and made possible by the Government and The National Lottery Community Fund. The project is set to run for two years, with the aim of building a case for the establishment of long-term dedicated youth centres.
The Million Hours Fund is a £22 million jointly funded initiative from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK. The programme funds organisations to provide positive activities for young people in areas with high levels of antisocial behaviour.
The intended outcomes of the project include:
- Reducing Anti-Social Behaviour: By providing safe spaces and engaging activities, the Youth Centres aim to divert young people away from negative behaviours and reduce instances of anti-social behaviour and crime in the community.
- Empowering Young People: Through a variety of activities and programmes, the Youth Centres will empower young individuals, helping them develop essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
- Building Community Cohesion: The centres will act as hubs for community engagement, bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds and interests. By fostering a sense of belonging and community spirit, the project aims to strengthen community cohesion and social bonds.
- Providing Long-Term Solutions: The pilot initiative will gather valuable data and insights to build a case for the establishment of long-term dedicated youth centres. By demonstrating the positive impact of such initiatives, Yuvanis aims to secure sustainable solutions for the benefit of young people across the region.
