On Monday 29 April, Yuvanis Foundation was officially presented with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service during a prestigious ceremony at The Monastery, Manchester. This award — the highest honour given to local volunteer groups across the UK — recognises the outstanding contribution of our volunteers to the lives of individuals and families across Greater Manchester.

This distinguished honour celebrates the dedication of our volunteers, whose tireless efforts have supported and uplifted communities across Greater Manchester. The occasion was made even more meaningful as several of our volunteers joined us on the day, standing proudly as representatives of the people who make our work possible.

Co-Founder and CEO, Zakir, said, “Our team have worked tirelessly for years to improve the lives of people and communities around them without seeking recognition. But this award didn’t just recognise their relentless efforts, but also demonstrates that their efforts continue to have tremendous positive impact on the community.”

Taslima, who leads our women’s peer-support group, added:
“Many of the women I work with have faced isolation and trauma. Creating a safe space for them to connect and heal has been powerful. This award recognises not just what we do, but why we do it.”

Sadique, our Youth Hub coordinator, shared, “Volunteering is a powerful contribution to community development that people don’t often know they need. Our volunteers go over and beyond to design, produce, and deliver impactful programmes for the betterment of people’s lives. I have been volunteering for Yuvanis Foundation for more than 10 years, and it hasn’t only helped others but my own physical and mental wellbeing.”

These stories are just a few examples of the hundreds of people whose time and commitment underpin our programmes — from youth development and mental health support to cultural education, community integration, and food assistance.

It was an honour to meet the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Mrs Diane Hawkins, who presented the award, as well as several Deputy Lieutenants who took the time to speak with our team. Their recognition and encouragement meant a great deal to all in attendance.

We also extend heartfelt congratulations to the 23 other remarkable organisations across Greater Manchester who received the award this year. Standing alongside so many inspiring groups was a proud and humbling experience.

This recognition marks a new chapter for Yuvanis Foundation. Inspired by this honour, we will soon be launching:
– An expanded youth leadership academy, offering mentoring and life skills development.
– A community research programme amplifying local voices in decision-making.
– A family support hub providing holistic assistance across health, education, and wellbeing.
– A volunteer training initiative, equipping more individuals with the skills and confidence to lead change.

This award is not just for us — it belongs to every volunteer, partner, and community member who has walked this journey with us. We are proud, we are grateful, and we are ready for what comes next.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank every single one of our volunteers who continue to give their time and efforts for the service of our community and making a difference to thousands of lives. I'd also like to acknowledge and thank all our partners and networks of organisations that help us learn and grow. Lastly, I'd like to say a huge thank you to all our funders who believe in our mission, invest in our passion, and support us in making that difference our community needs.
